Noritaka Tatehana was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1985, he first started making shoes when he was 15. Entirely self taught, he later went on to study at Tokyo National University of the arts where he majored in dyeing and weaving and began to create dyed kimonos and wooden clogs. He is probably best known for making sky scraping platform heels for Lady Gaga, although his prominent shoe collections are held in extrememly high regard by the fashion industry as well as the art fields. He launched his own signature brand in 2010 and the first collection is now stored in the FIT museum in New York.
