Blog Banter: Interview with Paula from PinkBow

Fashion and style are very personal and so are the people who present it.  It’s easy to lose individual voice in today’s world where so many things are run mainstream from behind a computer screen.  Therefore, it is essential to acquaint ourselves with the cyberspace gatekeepers of style and what makes them tick. Today fashion blogger Paula from Pink Bow gives us the view on her personal fashion world.

1.When and why did you start blogging?

I have been blogging now for two and a half years, initially set up as a creative space for inspirations and things of interest but evolving more into a documentation of my own life and interests and using my own photography.

2.Is there a story behind the name of your blog?

When I was thinking of a name for my blog, I was also thinking of a name for myself instead of using my own name. I didn’t want to be found on the internet under my real name, so created this pseudonym which is based upon my real name. (I still have yet to go public with my real name!) I then created a brand around this name to give a theme to the blog’s design.

3. What is your blog all about in 3 words?

Feminine. Creative. Stylish.

4. How would you describe your style?

As above – I hope! I tend to buy what I like without thinking too much about what is in fashion or what it will ‘match’ in my wardrobe. I buy pieces I love and they seem to fit together. I am quite classic and feminine but I like quirky twists to pieces, whether that be a small detail or the choice of fabric. I’m very influenced by French style, the French are very well put together without having looked like they are trying too hard.

5. Who is your ultimate fashion icon and why?

Audrey Hepburn – (predictable!) but she existed in one of my favourite techni-color eras. She dressed very simply but very stylishly with classic, key, well-designed (Givenchy!!) pieces. It was an era that dressed up, both men and women – I wish those times would return!

6. What are your 3 key pieces of clothing for the Autumn / Winter season?

A good winter coat in a classic and streamlined design (I am on the lookout for this as soon as the new season pieces hit the stores), my Jaeger Breton striped top (which I have just bought) and a dress with an interesting print (also that I have just bought – a pink printed silk Antik Battik dress, coincidentally from Zalando!)

7. Tell us about your favourite shopping destination?

It would have to be Paris. I have a trip planned for September. I love the range available from high-end to vintage, all in keeping with the French style I love. Walking around the Parisian streets is inspiration in itself.

8. As we have learned in recent months, anything is possible in the fashion world these days.  If you could take over as head designer for any fashion house, which one would it be, and what would be the inspiration for your first collection?

My favourite fashion house is Chanel. I’m not sure I would want to take over, as Karl Lagerfeld is doing the most amazing job, I don’t think anyone could possible achieve better than he has. However, using the historical archives of Chanel from years past, would continue to be the best inspiration.

9. What was your biggest fashion faux-pas?

Probably bodycon dresses when I was a teenager. Maybe I could get away with them then, I definitely could not now!

10. If you had to have one outfit permanently attached to your body for EVER, what would the outfit be, from hat to shoes?

Black 70’s style hat. Sky-Blue Etsy vintage dress. Black Classic Chanel Handbag. Two-Tone Chanel flats. Cashmere Vivienne Westwood coat. Pale blue calf-skin leather gloves. Tabio opaque tights.
