This week has marked the opening of summer fashion shows, with Men’s Fashion Week. The excitement began last weekend in Milano with Dolce and Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Jil Sander, Burberry Prorsum, Prada, Missoni, Vivienne Westwood, and Pringle of Scotland, Alexander McQueen, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, and DSquared. On Wednesday, the glitterati paraded to Paris for Mugler, Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, Viktor and Rolf, Christian Lacroix, and John Galliano (whose current Trial in Paris is even more of a spectacle than the shows); with Lanvin and Dior Homme still to come this weekend.
The menswear collections offer more than just an opportunity to indulge in the world of men’s fashion, but in many ways acts as a precursor for what is to come with the most anticipated womenswear looks of fall. Many of the same fabrics, colours, trends, and styling used in the men’s collections now will likely be adapted to the womenswear collections of each designer in September. Oh, the anticipation…it is killing me. In the meantime, here are some of my favourites from the week:
